Domain Mapping Instructions

First, what is domain mapping and what does it do?

Domain mapping is taking the new Web Tools site AutoNetTV has created for you and placing it in your existing websites domain (or folder) so that when a search engine indexes your site… they see our site as part of your site rather than something separate that your simply linking too.

What that does for you is it gives you credit for the content that is on that new site. Helping your SEO and page rank.

How to domain map:

We have automated most of the process for you. So it's fairly simple. But doing it in the right order is of the utmost importance. So follow these instructions carefully.

  1. Go to ListPipe and login to your new AutoNetTV webtools site. (You should have your username and password in the welcome email that was sent to you after you registered your new account)
  2. Click on the Map A Domain icon in your account home.
  3. Log in to your Domain Registrar (such as GoDaddy, Verio, Etc) and add a DNS 'A-Record' pointing to the IP Address found in your Map A Domain icon page under #1 under instructions. Make sure you remember the name of the URL you use for that A-Record as you'll use that later. (HINT: The URL you choose for that A-Record will be what people see when they are on the page, so make it something that makes sense, i.e. service.yourcompanywebsite.com or videos.yourcompanywebsite.com)
  4. Copy and paste that new A-Record URL into the "Enter your new domain" field in your web tools account and click 'update'
  5. You're finished! You'll need to wait up to 72 hours for the change to take place. During that time both the new URL you created and your Web Tools website will be inaccessible. This is expected and there isn't anything we can do to help until after the 72 hours has passed. So be patient!
